Don't Throw That Chip Bag Away! Give It Back to Frito-Lay, to Make into Handbag
In recycling news, two American firms launch an eco-friendly packaging plan. Snack company Frito-Lay will be opening 1,000 collection sites in the United States for consumers to deposit used bags of their products. Upcycling firm TerraCycle will then transform them into an array of useable products such as purses, handbags and pencil cases. In addition, Frito-Lay is donating two cents to charity for every bag left to be transformed. The program has the potential to divert more than five million bags from landfills by the end of this year. Kudos, Frito-Lay and Terracycle, on your green partnership. May many more organizations work together for the greater good of our one and only planet Earth.

In good governance news, Finland is committed to helping the Baltic Sea. To aid in its recovery from pollution, The Baltic Sea Action Summit will be held in February of 2010 in Helsinki. President Halonen stated that by working together, the best ways to save the sea can be discovered. Eight companies agreed to provide funds as well as assistance through their technology and products. Thank you, Finland, for your dedication to improving the condition of your valued waters. We pray that with the region’s cooperative efforts, the Baltic Sea will soon be returned to its purity and splendor.
Pupils given free fruit and veg in war on obesity
In health news, food plan in a United Kingdom city strives to improve children’s well-being. As part of Sheffield’s Healthy Towns Program, 800 students in Year 7 in three of the area’s schools will receive free fruits and vegetables daily. These will include apples, bananas, pears, carrots, strawberries, and sugar snap peas. The project is directed by National Health Service Sheffield along with Sheffield City Council. Nine regions in the UK were given approximately €5.7 million each in funding to support this plant-based endeavor. Our appreciation, National Health Service Sheffield and Sheffield City Council, for this caring offering of Mother Nature’s bounty. May all children learn to make wise dietary choices for a vibrant and fulfilling future.
